Culture: Malawi mourns death of a Legend, Jack Chamangwana

The Southern African nation is mourning a hero, Jack Chamangwana who passed on after suffering from high blood pressure. Jack had been in hospital since the beginning of the week and left this world on Sunday. The sixty-one year old Chamangwana was Malawi’s second most capped player in history with 133 appearances for the Flames. Before his passing on, the former captain had taken up the role of Technical Director at Malawian Super League side, Be Forward Wanderers.

The adored Jack made his international debut for the COSAFA affiliated country in 1975 under the guidance of Brazilian coach, Wonder Moreira. He helped Malawi to the East and Central African Challenge Cup before hanging his boots in 1985. His footballing years ended with a two-year spell at the South African Premier Soccer League giant, Kaizer Chiefs. Chamangwana also coached Tanzanian club, Young Africans and assisted Young Chimodzi who was the Flames national team coach in 2014.
