English Premier League: Who will challenge for European football?
The world’s favorite league is back with bang. Eager to look at who will likely finish above the rest this campaign? We got you, we have rounded most of the promising sides who could push for titles and European football in the new season.

This week saw the 2019/20 EPL season kick off and needless to say the race for the title has begun. The league table has already started tallying points and we can finally start talking league standings, silverware and of course, European football. Last season England set its mark on Europe last with exceptional class acts that gave us two all English European finals and the Super Cup match up. The top teams will once again take their ambitions to Europe where English teams have once again become a force to be reckoned with. Promising summer windows for some of the clubs including Arsenal, Everton and a nonexistent one for Chelsea after a ban from the transfer window and also looking at the pre-season form of the teams, we’ve had a peak at their fortunes this upcoming season and picked teams that have a chance of winning some European football next season.
POSSIBLE 2019/2020 TOP FOUR
Tottenham Hotspur
Last season finish: 4th
The combination of having more elite players and managers has propelled the once more average teams into big powerhouses. Tottenham represents this metamorphosis better than any other; the emergence of the club as a top flight club in Europe has been due to over the years have put in some quality efforts and consistency from the North Londoners. Mauricio Pochettino’s men look set to bag another top four finish, a fact that seemed inconceivable only a few seasons ago. In fact, Arsenal fans made St. Tottenham’s Day, in celebration of something that seemed so routine for years; finishing above Spurs in the league. Undoubtedly, Spurs have handed Arsenal fans a bitter pill to swallow while simultaneously gaining prominence in Europe not only for their exploits in England but for a brilliant UEFA Champions League campaign and a first final in that competition. The season brings new challenges of whether they can hold on to talents like Christian Eriksen who is on the radar of big European clubs like Real Madrid. Champions League also on the agenda this season, Spurs will come out blazing in hopes to finally secure the league title.

Liverpool
Last season finish: 2nd
Last year’s UEFA Champions League winners Liverpool are the most successful English team in the European competitions. Yet at the moment, it almost seems as if Liverpool can have the most outstanding seasons with unbeaten runs and the most excellent formations and squads and still lose out in the dying moments. The second place curse, as it’s dubbed, is the cause of many frustrations for the YNWA faithful. However, Jurgen Klopp has in times past proven his managerial competence and last year’s UEFA Champions League win is enough evidence that Liverpool have what it takes to take the title this year. Breaking from this pattern of disappointing finishes in the league will be the main goal for Klopp. Liverpool are formidable against any side in the Premier League and with the club’s biggest assets still on the roster, they are undoubtedly close favorites to the title together with City.
Manchester City
Last season finish: 1st
Manchester City go into the season with the possibility of winning a third EPL title in three years straight. City are the most compact, have the strongest and solid attack; that is hardly frazzled champions of the English Premier League. City have been a winning formula and that still largely remains undisrupted. Jose Mourinho commented that he believed Manchester City’s B-team could quite easily challenge for the title. For starters, English international who can as well start on the bench, Raheem Sterling started the season with a hat trick against West Ham and more performances of that level from the forward can as well hand the Citizens yet another title.
Chelsea
Last season finish: 3rd

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea have received a blow to the start of their Premier League campaign. The 4-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford is as an undesirable outcome. Frank Lampard his youthful side do not have the experience warranted to deliver Chelsea their title hopes. Despite this, Chelsea is definitely one of the teams that have the biggest potential, ironically because of the fresh talent in the squad. Lampard has a big task with Chelsea and together with his youthful side, all have something to prove. The rebuild for Lampard will take some time and as such we should not expect much from them. Chelsea will need to work on giving the young players the confidence they need to play at the level of the EPL. They might end in the top four if there the experience of other long standing players on the squad comes to the party.
Arsenal and Manchester United
Last season finish: 5th and 6th
Arsenal and Manchester United’s Red Devils are likely to be beating down at each other’s doors again this season gunning for a top four finish against their much solid counterparts. Unai Emery and Arsenal lost to Chelsea in the final of the 2018/19 Europa league, showing that they do have the world class players they need to inject the much needed attacking potent but a shambolic defence. Arsenal may now have a real chance with Nicolas Pepe, the club’s record signing coupled with Aubameyang’s goal scoring prowess and David Luiz’s defensive experience. After going on a signature spending spree that saw United signing Harry Maguire, Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for £146million, the main goal would be to finish in the top four. After managing to revive United’s fortunes last season, all eyes will be on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to see if he can take United into a future where they once again dominate the EPL.

Everton
Last season finish: 8th
Football in Europe is the crowning of any English club into the club of champions which has been exclusive to the top six. A team that unsurprisingly could shake up the top four this season are Everton. Shaking things up is Everton, who have set themselves up for a strong chase with their summer signings. Marco Silva’s new personnel are likely going to play significant role in the club’s European football ambitions. One of them is Moise Kean, the nineteen-year-old striker from Juventus, who is one of the most promising young talents in Europe at the moment. Kean’s signing from Juventus has been seen as the remedy for Everton’s attack which has not been the same post Lukaku’s exit to Old Trafford in 2017. Nigerian midfielder, Alex Iwobi joins former Arsenal teammate Theo Walcott at Everton. Iwobi’s £28 million move to the Blues has come at a time for him to prove his impact in the big game and will be eager to prove his worth. Andres Gomes from Barcelona also joins the Blues to round off a brilliant transfer window for Everton. The Blues are likely to shake be knocking on the top six’s door if they perform to the standard.

Wolverhampton Wanderers
Last season finish: 7th
Merciless and on the chase for a spot in European football next year. Wolves will be looking to bash it out with the top six. Last season, the newcomers did more than just turn a few heads, knocking a few egos along the way as well and managing an absolutely hard earned seventh place finish. Nuno Esperinto Santo’s men will once more hope to ruffle the feathers at the top this season and qualify for Europe once more after nudging their way into the Europa League this season courtesy of Manchester City’s double qualification as league winners and FA Cup victors. Wolves have had a busy summer, releasing and signing new players including club record signing Raul Jimenez from Benfica who will stay on permanently after a succesful loan spell last season and Patrick Cutrone from AC Millan.
Leicester City
Last season finish: 9th
Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers maybe the right man to take the Foxes into a top six finish. The manager has been focused on creating a top flight team for Leicester City once again. The transfer window was a chance for the former Celtic manager to rebuild the squad after departures by key players such as Riyad Mahrez. This summer, Harry Maguire’s move to Manchester United for £80 million exposed Foxes to another loss of a key player. However, signings of Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans who spent last season a loan from AC Monaco and striker Ayoze Perez from Newcastle could cover some of the gaps. Leicester City talisman and top goal scorer Jamie Vardy will provide the experience while the addition of young energy into the squad will allow for a dynamic squad that could potentially qualify for the Europa League next season.
West Ham
Last season finish: 10th

West Ham who also managed to finish in the top half of the table last year. The question is how will they fair against the big teams this season. After a disappointing start to the season, losing to Manchester City 5-0, the Hammers will look to rebuild their confidence with wins against smaller teams lined up. West Ham had moments where they looked like a top 10 team last season, beating out Manchester United and Arsenal. The Londoners have however suffered a blow to their attack after losing Arnautovic to the pull of the Chinese Super League. Manuel Pellegrini’s task this season is undoubtedly to fish out the quality performances from the team in the face of the bigger teams in the league. The former Manchester City manager has to make crucial improvements in the back which will serve Hammers well in their campaign. West Ham could edge up wards in the league, only if luck would have it.
The Premier League is set to be a magnificent one. With 380 matches this season, with the bulk of them still to be played, there’s a long way to go before we crown the league champions. If past Premier League seasons are anything to go by, it’s a road packed with dramatic goals, unexpected injuries that get in the way.

Time for Gueye to depart consistently average Everton?
Senegal’s Idrissa Gueye has been the Premier League’s overall best defensive midfielder and tackler in the past four seasons and yet remains without the pride of every footballer, some silverware. No other player could benefit more from a transfer than the 29-year-old.

Everton football club has recently been such a club seeking to go up the ranks in the ever competitive English Premier League. It’s been a journey that seems to be going in circular motion. What is it that they haven’t tried? Splashing big money on players, hiring and firing managers, but their last top 4 finish dates back to the 2004-05 season. As to what direction the club who currently sits in 11th position takes next, only time will time. One thing is for sure though, one of their most prized assets, Idrissa Gueye, has seemingly given a lot for the club and gotten not so much in return.
It’s worth noting that the 29-year-old Senegalese tough tackling midfielder has consistently been the best defensive midfielder in the EPL ever since signing for the Merseyside club in 2016. Gueye has registered the highest number of tackles by a single player, twice in the four seasons and finished second in the other two. He has matched and beaten the likes of N’golo Kante and Nemanja Matic, stat to stat and yet remains without any silverware, very much on top of the list of many other unsung heroes in global football. In fact, on all occasions that Matic and Kante have been on the list, they won the league title with their teams, Matic in 2014/15 season with Chelsea and Kante with Leicester and Chelsea in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 season respectively. The midfield tackling role is central to a team’s success and has proven to be the backbone of any side but Gueye hasn’t had his efforts complimented with similar input by his Everton teammates. His record doesn’t only make him England’s finest but puts him in the bracket of the best defensive midfielders in the world if not the best because if he fits in the Kante category, who else comes before them? After all, Gueye may perhaps get a bigger stage for more wins and trophies in his so far impressive career.

French Ligue 1 side, PSG reportedly came close to acquiring the Senegalese in a £30 million deal in the 2019 January transfer window. The table topping Parisians who are on a quest to win their first ever UEFA Champions League trophy will unlikely rest until they get their man and the deal could be on this summer. PSG have few super talented and expensive players in their squad that includes Mbappe, Neymar and quite a handful of youngsters to complement them. Gueye could be one of the experienced talents to come in and work with the likes of Marco Verrati in the midfield as the French club continues to builds itself up to be one of Europe’s most dominant forces.
FT Hidden Gems Series: The short-gun, Ademola Lookman
He represented England at youth level but has now committed to Nigeria. His eyes will definitely be set firstly on making a mark in the upcoming 2019 AFCON tournament and proving that he can be regular for Everton in the 2018/19 Premier League season. But who really is Ademola Lookman?
Most of us might be familiar with the name Lookman because of the latest headline about him snubbing the chance to represent England for an African team. Aside from that, there is little known about the teenage prodigy that has been shaking the ground in the minor age groups but is still giving a headache to his current coach at Everton FC. Ademola Lookman is one of the many players in world football that we zoom into their career to understand what they are about.
Background
The 20-year old started his professional career at Charlton Athletic where he made his senior debut as a forward. In 2017, he was snapped up by Everton in a deal reported to be around £11 million which topped the world transfer news. The player has since been used as a winger to date. Before that, Ademola had attended St Thomas the Apostle College where he attained 3 A* and 5 As before pursuing his passion for football. As football fans, we appreciate the support from his family who encouraged him to pursue sport as a professional career ahead of academia. In the African context, it is not quite often that parents embolden their children to play soccer especially when their kids are A students like Lookman. Just a couple of years down the line, their faith in his decision is starting to pay off. Lookman has since played for the first team at Everton as well as RB Leipzig on a short stint this year.
On his attributes
Lookman started off as a striker as mentioned earlier. His goal scoring record in the U18 and U21 teams warranted him a position in the first team at Charlton where he eventually starred at a young age. He scored on his full debut before adding a brace in his second appearance just 10 days later. He managed a total of 10 goals in the 45 appearances he made for the club before moving to Everton. This rings a bell to how Marcus Rashford started off his career at Manchester United where he banged in goals for fun in his first UEFA Europa League, English Premier League and FA Cup debuts. Much like Rashford, a change of management meant that the Lookman had to adapt to a new position at Everton.

The young forward was turned into a winger under the wings of two Everton managers in Roberto Martinez and Sam Allardyce, who deployed him mostly on the left side in the absence of the injured Yannick Bolasie. Lookman was mostly used later on in the match when Everton needed to waste time in the dying minutes and needed a fresh player capable of holding the ball at his feet. Little did they know that the young forward would grab his opportunity and start knocking on the door for a start in the Everton team. Sam Allardyce realised that the young player needed to gain some experience before making the next step in his career, and sent him on loan to RB Leipzig in Germany where he shined. Lookman came on as a late substitute against Borussia Monchengladbach and scored a late winner on his debut. He ended up scoring 5 goals in 11 appearances before the end of the 2017/18 season. The German club were dazzled by his direct play as he always demanded the ball before making forward runs which produced the goods for the club. Even from playing on the flanks, he still managed to score goals which is an attribute that many teams are lacking in the present day. It is not surprising that Leipzig tried to secure another short-term acquisition of the youngster to help their team especially in the summer in which they lost their Guinean starman, Naby Keita, to Liverpool.
Lookman can also play as a makeshift wing-back. He has the workrate and the pace needed on the byline which you can see in a player like Ashley Young who plays for Manchester United. However, it would be limiting his contribution if deployed in such a defensive position because he is far more dangerous when he is further up the pitch.

On his decision to play for Nigeria ahead of England
Being born in England to Nigerian parents meant that the winger was eligible to represent a country of his choice between the two. He first turned down the advances made by Gernot Rohr, the Nigerian coach in 2017 because he had his mind set on playing for England in the FIFA U20-World Cup. One year later, it is a different story altogether.

Recent reports on European football news suggested that the youngster realised that his chances of playing for England are blocked by quite a number of promising youngsters like Josh Onomah, Demarai Gray and Ryan Sessegnon. This explains why he intends to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria instead of England whom he has represented at youth level.
Also, the fact that Victor Moses announced his retirement from international football means that there is a position up for grabs in the first team which Ademola Lookman would be looking to grab and make his own. With Everton’s Henry Onyekuru also lurking, it will by no means be a walk in the park.

What’s next for the Nigerian?
Lookman has fallen down the pecking order at Everton now that Marco Silva is the new head coach and acquired the services of Richarlison for £50 million pounds from Watford. The Brazilian plays in the same position as the young Nigerian and seems to have the confidence of the manager. Maybe Lookman has to keep his head down and wait for his chance at the club after he failed to secure another loan move away from Everton before transfer deadline day.
Another option could be to leave for another club that will give him a chance to prove that he deserves a place in the Nigeria’s Super Eagles squad for the 2018 Africa Cup of nations which will be hosted by Cameroon. Lookman has a bright future ahead of him and FirstTouch would want to benchmark his career to that of other football legends like Didier Drogba, George Weah, etc. when he eventually hangs his boots.

Richarlison’s slick start at Premier League side, Everton continued with a brace for Brazil and Real Madrid’s Asensio made a powerful statement in the UEFA Nations League. He looks set to star in La Liga and eventually work to ensure Los Blancos will not miss Cristiano Ronaldo. The story about these two is a story of the future.

One thing is for sure though, Spain’s Marco Asensio and Brazilian’s Richarlison are looking like they will always be protagonists, wherever they will be. Here and now. Here is why?

Brace-heart Richarlison
The 21-year-old, sure knows how to make a statement. If anyone had thought that his springboard start to life at Everton after a £50 million move from Premier League side, Watford was a fluke, I wonder what they are saying now. The young forward scored a brace against Wolves in his first game in an Everton shirt and has followed suit by doing the same thing in his full Brazilian debut against El Salvador. A beautifully curled right footed shot into the top corner in the first half and a beautifully place left-footed finesse after gathering Coutinho’s spoils in the second half helped ensure Brazil walked away as 5-0 winners. I thought the first goal was immaculate but the second one, no superlative suffices. The half-chance he utilised to make that goal hints at the quality and class of Richarlison. He is really not going to be a Neymar, showboating everywhere or rolling on the floor at times - but a vibrant, aggressive winger who will always find it hard not to be on the score-sheet. With the support of Gabriel Jesus’ goal poaching abilities upfront, Brazil’s future eleven should stay strong.
Cliche Asensio-shots
As for Asensio, not much really need to be said about the 22-year-old Real Madrid forward. It is true that he is earmarked to play a major role in Los Blancos’ attempts to fill Cristiano Ronaldo’s shoes alongside Gareth Bale and Isco, because he’s got the sauce! Asensio opened his Spanish first team account with an Asensio goal, a left-footed drive from the midfield after cheeky leg movements and assisted La Furia Roja’s three other goals in their 6-0 thrashing of the 2018 World Cup finalists, Croatia. He could have had a second, but hit the woodwork instead with a slightly similar shot that the goalkeeper deflected into his own net for an own goal. We have seen this time and time again at Madrid by Asensio and with him looking to be a key figure in the new Spanish choir with Dani Ceballos, Saul Niguez, Odriozola, Kepa and Isco - this won’t be the last time we will write awfully a lot about the Spaniard. Asensio himself is prepared to conquer:
“With Cristiano or without him I have the same aim of having a first team place and being important. So far so good, I have started the season well and I am working well.”
Starring roles fine-tune stars

If there is one thing we have learned about Kylian Mbappe’s rise to stardom, it is simply that giving a young player responsibility makes all the difference. Mbappe was one of the names on the scoresheet in Leornado Jardim’s Monaco side that reached the 2017 UEFA Champions League semi-final at just eighteen. He really got a chance to make and correct a lot of mistakes while at the same time being motivated by the fact that he was doing important work for the team. Unai Emery never hesitated to play him alongside more established names of Neymar and Cavani, even choosing to bench the likes of Di Maria and Julian Draxler and so did Didier Deschamps who even handed him the symbolic number ten shirt at the world cup finals. Well, it’s no secret that Mbappe is an exceptional talent but the faith put in him were not a small matter in growing him.
The good news for Asensio and Richarlison is that even though they are not eighteen like Mbappe, Everton’s Marco Silva does not look like he is going to drop the Brazilian anytime soon and Lopetegui definitely sees Asensio as a key ingredient in his Ronaldo-less Real Madrid. These protagonist roles will inevitably unleash more of what these boys possese.

FT Hidden Gems Series: Idrissa Gana Gueye
The 28-year-old Senegalese and Everton midfielder has made the second highest number of tackles in the EPL since 2015, second to 2018 World Cup winner, N’golo Kante.
We continue heralding some of the unsung African heroes of the modern game of football mainly because we can and quite frankly, we also care. The first of the bunch was the 22-year old Adama Traore, the Malian whom we think will light up the English Premier League this season.
Our next pick is also from West Africa, Senegal to be specific. Idrissa Gueye, popularly known as Gana by his teammates has won hearts in the blue half of Merseyside, Everton. In the club’s constant change in management, from Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce and now, Marco Silva, Gana is one of the few players whose name have topped the team sheet. Ever since joining the club in the 2016/17 season, he has made a remarkable 33 Premier League appearances out of the available 38 in that debut season and then also another 33 appearances in the subsequent one. Only two of those in the entire period were from the bench, which is a glimpse of how important he has become at Everton.

He is not very outspoken and neither is his game, but you feel it when he is not in the match. Gana’s style of play is not very different from that of Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets or everyone’s favorite, N’golo Kante. Of course, it’s arguable whether he is at the same level as these two, he may be smaller but he is not too far away. Even though he plays for a mid-table club in the Premier League, which does not always afford him the chance to win trophies and be shone on the medals podium, his statistics speak for themselves. In the 2017/18 season, he made the second highest number of tackles in the league, only second to Nigeria’s Wilfried Ndidi, another gem in the making. But the thing is, he has been doing this consistently. Since his Premier League debut in 2015 under Aston Villa, Gueye has made a total of, 396 tackles, only the acclaimed N’golo Kante has made more, just nineteen more. Gueye is growing and developing into an effective holding midfielder, especially in the modern game, but he has weaknesses too. He a very deep-lying midfielder who only lies deep, too deep at times. He is not as adventurous as Kante, who periodically runs up the field to attack, assist or get some goals on the scoresheet. This is something which may not be part of his job description but has become crucial to the modern game and definitely nothing he cannot learn. The 28-year old has been criticised for his “nonchalant defending” by some, even emerging as one of the reasons why others think Senegal were knocked out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup by Colombia.
Idrissa is arguably one of the top tough tacklers in the game today and will continue being the difference to any side fortunate to have him.
Allardyce facing scrutiny
Everton boss Sam Allardyce is in a situation that he cannot help. The former England boss is at a club that was struggling at the beginning of the season and were looking like they would be facing the relegation battle if they could not change their ways. Big Sam was hired to replace Koeman and he has been out of favor because of his style of play. His team is set up in a way that is more defensive and plays for the counter attacks which has produced results ever since taking over as they are in 8th position already. However, this does not sit down well with the fans who are looking for an attractive football that means being attacking and dominating other teams which is not really much of an ask from a squad that was invested in a lot more than ever seen before with the recruitment of players like Walcott, Tosun, Sigurdsson, Rooney, Pickford, Klassen, Michael Keane among others. The problem with that style is that it has not produced results when Koeman was in charge. Arsenal are more likely to face the same challenge when they replace Wenger in the summer. If they bring in a manager who produces results but has a style of play that does not satisfy the fans, it is likely that the stadium will not be filled on the matchday.
Sam Allardyce said, “I can't honestly produce any more than I'm doing. What can I say when you've got 14 points out of seven games when you were faced with the club being in a very difficult position when you arrived? I can only say it's just one of those things, and if we keep winning hopefully they (the fans) might change it to love.”

Former England and Manchester United captain, Wayne Rooney was furious at his boss for taking him out of the match between Everton and Liverpool on the 57th minute. The striker-turned-midfielder is used to being the focal point of the team and did not expect Sam Allardyce to sub him off the pitch especially in the Merseyside derby which is every club fan’s joy to play in. Sam Allardyce made comments in the post-match commentary box and he said that no player is too big to be subbed off. The coach, however, defended his decision saying that it was for the best of the team and that Everton became more attacking and created more opportunities to score, but Rooney could have been that man to score those goals. The former England international has seen a reduced number of minutes ever since Allardyce took over from Koeman. This is even after their record signing picked up an injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season.
Allardyce is quoted to have said this to talkSPORT, “That was too much for him to take and he had to show his frustration. We'll sit down in the next week and we'll talk it through and we'll see how he feels. I'm sure he's calmed down a little bit now.”
The coach wants to sit down with the experienced player who left Manchester United for Everton this season. He wants to have a conversation about it in a calmer environment after what happened on Saturday. He believes the player has cooled down now and would probably discuss so as to manage expectations from both parties and prevent such disappointments that lead to outrageous decisions that can disrupt the dressing room. Klopp hopeful of Salah return
Liverpool need Salah to be fit for their match against City
Liverpool are still not sure if their man of the moment is fit to play against Manchester City in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Quarter-Finals. The player helped his squad in the 3-0 win at Anfield as he scored one and provided for fellow African player, Sadio Mane to score. Jurgen Klopp admits that he is not as sure as everyone else about whether Salah will make it to the match and that they will find out only a couple of hours before the kickoff. The player has been training with the athletic coach of Liverpool on Monday and is still yet to have a session with the whole squad after picking up a groin injury in the first leg of this clash which has kept him out ever since. This injury is probably distracting the tactics of the German coach who is planning on shutting down the attack of City as they keep a high intensity that will allow them to dispossess Pep Guardiola’s squad. Salah, as well as two Liverpool, left backs, Alberto Moreno and Andrew Robertson were not available for the derby on Saturday and there is hope that they will return fit for the decider on Tuesday night. Liverpool face Everton in the Merseyside Derby on Saturday. The English Premier League clash between the two could not come at a better time for the Reds who are fresh from defeating Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League. The Liverpool team played their hearts out in that match which makes one wonder if they will have enough energy and drive for the match against their local rivals. First of all, the fans have to behave in the match otherwise there could be serious repercussions on the day. Liverpool are expected to lineup without their star forward, Mo Salah who is the current top goal scorer in the EPL with 29. The Egyptian genius was forced off the field with a suspected groin injury in their last match and his manager, Jurgen Klopp, has said that he will not risk playing the player if he is not 100% fit. The player has been recovering in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Adam Lallana, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez are the other absentees from Klopp’s side. Danny Ings is looking likely to start the match which affords a well-deserved rest to Firmino.

Pep’s team eases past Everton for a 3-0 win
Manchester City won 3-1 away to Everton and are just 3 points away from winning the English Premier League. They are already being called the Champions Elect thanks to their amazing performances this season. On the day of the return of the EPL from the international break, Leroy Sane broke the deadlock early on in the match. Sane’s fine volley on the 4th minute brought a buzz at the away end in Goodison Park and brought confusion to Sam Allardyce’s team. Gabriel Jesus added salt to the wounded side when he followed that up with a fine headed goal on the 12th minute. 2-0 was the scoreline under 15 minutes and this was not great start for Everton. When Raheem Sterling scored the third on the 37th minute, it was already game over for the Merseyside club. City ran with the lead at the break and Everton never looked like they could do anything about that. Yannick Bolasie tried to initiate what would be a great comeback against the high fliers by scoring on the 68th minute but that was it. Everton were poor on the night in front of their fans and they have to go back to the drawing board and find solutions on how to beat the best teams in the league. Their ambitions of fighting for Europe with the clubs like Tottenham and Arsenal are very far from their capabilities hence the need to be patient. City however are just a win away from being crowned the champions and this can be made special if they win it against their rivals United.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (nicknamed the Batman for his heroic antics) is a prolific goalscorer proven in the German Bundesliga where he outscored Robert Lewandowski before his move to Arsenal. Aubameyang’s move created a buzz and brought hope to the Arsenal side that have been struggling in recent months if not years. He showed early signs of what he is capable of when he chipped Jordan Pickford as he scored Arsenal’s fourth goal against Everton. We hope the striker lights up the league as his predecessors in Mahrez, Mane and Salah in recent years.
